regarding the zestar apple at Jerzy Boyz Farm
we have fruited the zestar for 2 seasons and we like it; summer apples
are tricky as you want the flavor to be full and mature but the apple
will get soft on the tree if you wait too long, We have very hot
summers here in NC Washington state and so depending upon the
particulars of weather that season, it will grow well or just be too
darn hot for the early apples--that said, we have experimented with
misting or
overhead cooling and find that to be somewhat a solution in very hot
years. The problem we find with overhead cooling is the apples mature
a bit differently and the color on them is a bit different so you have
to adjust your "eye" for the timing for harvest
