A food mill or strainer, like the Foley, Mouli, Victorio, or the Kitchenaid
attachment will all do the job. Motorized strainers might be easier or
faster for big jobs; mostly I like the motor because it frees a hand and
makes it easier to feed the machine. I'm sure mills or strainers each have
their fans; I've been happy with either.
Blackberry seeds don't bother me, and I actually miss them if they're
strained out of jam. They're a good source of Vitamin E and add some fiber.
If you want the nutrition but not the seeds, you can also blend the berries
in a Vitamix or Blendtec blender, then make your jam from the puree. I
hardly ever use my strainer; for most things I used to use one for, I get a
smoother and more nutritious product, with the fiber intact, by using one of
those powerful blenders I mentioned. Still, strainers can be handy.
Sellers usually seem to mention that their stainless machines are stainless.
I've only had stainless ones. I would hope they wouldn't come in Aluminum,
as they're made to handle acidic fruits (including tomatoes), but to be
sure, read the ad or packaging.

Speaking of a food strainer, what is the best food strainer for straining
out blackberry seeds? We have a bunch of frozen blackberries and I'd like
to make some jam out of them sometime this winter. I've heard people talk
about Foley Food Mills and Victorio Strainers, which is best? Are they
fast? I'd rather avoid getting an aluminum one, are they both stainless
steel? Is there a better way to separate the seeds from the pulp than a
strainer/food mill?
Thanks,
Mark
