The berry quality varies. I chose the two vines with the best berries on my property and pulled all the rest out. I keep the two pruned and staked. They ripen late in summer and early fall.

For early berries, Cascade berries are delicious. They have the flavour of wild trailing blackberries. I suspect they are only hardy on the coast, though.

Controlling Himalayan blackberries is a lot easier than controlling some of the cultivated berries, like loganberries and boysenberries that I planted and then changed my mind about. They have been coming up for more than 25 years even though I cut them off several times a year.
