You might try grafting it on a Myrobalan rootstock to keep it from suckering. Myrobalan is very vigorous and should give you some fast growth. Are you going to make some sloe gin?

Lon, you're skirting close to why I'd want to graft - I've heard
Prunus spinosa suckers a LOT. If I decide to use these as an edible
hedge, I'd like them to stay in control.
