Jerry asked, "Does horse urine really make soil acid, as several have said?"
Fresh urine tends to be acidic and is 95% water and 2.5% urea. The average pH of urea is 8.8. Urea in soil is converted to ammonium (NH4) and/or ammonia (NH3) which is rapidly converted to nitrate (NO3) which is in the form taken up by plants. Its effect on soil pH is fleeting and almost momentary.
