Hallo Jan,
thank you for your explanations!
I understand you well, because I know also a little bit about patenting plants at Germany and /or EU.
If you like I can investigate in detail about the costs. In fact we have very clear tables about the detailed patenting costs.
I guess it will be between 2000,- and 4000,- € per cultivar. You can decide the period and the area of protection (one country, whole EU!!! or worldwide).
It is possible to apply at the German office or at a French office (head office for all EU). Usually they will choose the place and country where the plant is tested.
I guess for Actinidia and Lonicera it will be Germany. E.g. an Italian breeder ask for a Asimina patent and finally they decided Germany has to do the testing, because no other EU country is more specialized in so called "wild-fruits".
Give me some time and I can tell you quite exact costs.
In your case the costs could be reduced, if you provide the testing institution with quite large plant which will have fruits in the next season.
Germany has also the comparison plants and you have not to provide them with these plants.
The test period will be quite short. Usually a few years only.

I understand also your problem with Haeberli... I think you will loose always, if you do not make the patenting by yourself.
All over the world big companies like to steal plant rights... They will keep you always a foolish.
In your case it is more complicated because Actinidia and Lonicera are not cash-crops at the moment.
E.g. no Juglans regia is patented at EU (I think) , but I know of 4 Juglans regia x nigra patents. Those plants are used in thousands as timber-plants at forests...
If you like, I can ask many details and after that you can think about the future of your - indeed - better cultivars.
No need to hurry and no need to give them just away to other companies at this time!
I think both will have a future because "wild-fruits" will become more into fashion. But when will it be?
If you like, you can use also my private address only: hans-brinkmann@t-online.de

Ostrava,Czech Rep.EU thank you you are very kind, but my sort a.kol. is
best in world due to description of sorts.Berries are 42mm long, width is
14-15mm, weight 4,7gram bigger berry is 6gram.quality good, three berries on
one stem as common with actinidia. I am streeming for 22 years to get patent
for it without succes.Mr. Jakob recomended to me Mr. Haeberli. I tried to
work with him, but he is bad man. I brought to him plants twoo sorts of my
lonicera and make agreement that he can patent it for his own and he will
pay to me royalties. He patented it and when I ask money, he said: I do got
it from someboady other,I do not want to speak with you.He is multiplying it
in big, he is boss of great consorcium in hungary, and mainly in deutschland.
All his companies are multiplying it and in catalogues they show picture not
the sort of mine, but the slovakia sort.Slovakians went from my sorts
also, and patented it in all europe.I will hardly do something. Haeberli
know, that i have no money at all, I was working not hunting money.from 1971
till 1986 I worked ilegaly through nights with Operation Mobilisation
spreading smougled books for our country, slovakia, russia, ukraine,
romania.they came and usualy brought 1000kg of books in car.Komunistic
system named the work Ideology diversion.Iwas often folowed by secret
police, but they took me only twice and let me go, for I had twoo very
strong defendants very brave and cleaver, they made fun from komunists and
secret.in day I was working in factory, afternoon in garden and nights
travelling with suitcases and often with car of brothers.Hard time.I am
looking for many plants, but i will have to repay it and I am streeming to
patent some sort.here I am in war with totaly corupted specialists. They had
good busines by western countries.TIR was carriing plants like for
exhibition no custom,no taxes and all this was black busines for deutschland
, nederland, france, belge, danmark, and others.Nor western countries helped
to me patent my sorts. Here is very hard to get plant of lonicera.privat
company is sold out totaly. The boss patented my sort and he is milioner.I
have here borowed computer Pentium 2,no printing,no photo except mobil.I do
not sell plants, for I am too busy to keep alive my garden no conditiones to
multiply plants.I did not find any company here nor abroad, who is honest
and who can speak about breeders rights.22 years ago I aplied for
patent, everyboady could have this in garden and could get many vitamins from
it. My sort of actinidia have 1520mg% of vit C!!! loniceras are best content
of vitamin Pand other. such boom like lonicera was not here with other
fruits.I will look for internet addresses, by Jan

Hallo Jan,
druschba tawarisch, dobre djen!
It's very interesting!
Real research in new cultivars is done at many places - but usually only
with "commercially interesting" crops like apples, pears, cherries, grape...
There is only one place known for it's many, many Actinidia cultivars:
Bayerische Landesanstalt für Weinbau und Gartenbau near Würsburg/Bavaria.
If you need any information or material, let me know and I will help you
for sure.
I guess they have approx. 100 Actinidia cultivars. If you are searching
for special Actinidia cultivars (even many, many other fruits and wild
fruit-cultivars), let me know!
Even I have a contact to an old Actinidia collector with a very large
private collection. Unfortunately he has no e-mail.
In my collection I have only some usual Actinidia cultivars. Could get
e.g. A. kolomikta "Matowaja" cuttings.
In which area are you located? I am from Northern Germany near Hannover.

all loniceras have less measure of berry than in usual year. I water but

english,in spite that i know polish, slovak and russia well. Now I was

Hallo Vrana,
thank you very much! I am always interested in good cultivars.
In Germany we have approx. 10 cultivars of Lonicera caerulea var.
kamtschatica.
Some are the American Blue-series and some are new ones from different
origins.
Which one do you have in your country?
Yes, they contain Anthocyanes(amount?), Flavonole, Rutin, vitamin C,
6-8% sugar and 2-4% fruit-acids.

Hallo Doug,
Sambucus is e.g. containing much Appleacid, Grapeacid and Anthocyane.
Anthocyane are very strong antioxidants with many, many positive

effects...

Probably this is the reason we strongly recommend Sambucus against a
cold, an infection and even against infection-pain and others effects.
Only "wild"! Vaccinum berries have a much higher content. Vaccinum CV
have almost none content.
We consider e.g. Samdal, Samyl, Sambu and Haschberg (bad
umbel-ripening-time) for a very high Anthocyane content.
According to my information pure S. canadensis has always a smaller
Anthocyane content.

Hallo Richard,
Sambucus nigra "Samdal" is really good, high Anthocyan! medium growth,
no special disease-problem at Germany, but many are possible.
"Allesöe" has even better harvest because of same ripening-time(per
umbel)! is one of the best for commercial plantations at Germany!
We use different cultivars for different chemical contents.
Probably you have also nice crosses between S. nigra and S. canadensis.
