Hallo Jan,
very interesting - indeed - to read your Lonicera caerulea experience.
Unfortunately your experience with the Geisenheim Research Center has been bad...
I think Geisenheim Research is specialized only in Grape and many Stone-fruits plus a few others.
Anyhow Mr. Jakobs reaction is symptomatic for many specialists...

I have new Altai, Amur, Morena, Fialka, Jupiter and Maistar (all protected) and some "Blues", but I just started with Lonicera.
I think it will be very easy for us to exchange some new harvest seeds ...
In fact we are just neighbors.

ciao
Hans from Germany

have fruit of bad taste. I ofered my help in researchz but he refused. I
could help a lot. now research is very far, but there is still a lot of work
to be done.I have berries only 30mm, but russians have till50mm. Nearly
each university have it in research now.It have great future ekonomy

Hallo Vrana,
thank you very much! I am always interested in good cultivars.
In Germany we have approx. 10 cultivars of Lonicera caerulea var.
kamtschatica.
Some are the American Blue-series and some are new ones from different
origins.
Which one do you have in your country?
Yes, they contain Anthocyanes(amount?), Flavonole, Rutin, vitamin C,
6-8% sugar and 2-4% fruit-acids.

Hallo Doug,
Sambucus is e.g. containing much Appleacid, Grapeacid and Anthocyane.
Anthocyane are very strong antioxidants with many, many positive
effects...
Probably this is the reason we strongly recommend Sambucus against a
cold, an infection and even against infection-pain and others effects.
Only "wild"! Vaccinum berries have a much higher content. Vaccinum CV
have almost none content.
We consider e.g. Samdal, Samyl, Sambu and Haschberg (bad
umbel-ripening-time) for a very high Anthocyane content.
According to my information pure S. canadensis has always a smaller
Anthocyane content.

Hallo Richard,
Sambucus nigra "Samdal" is really good, high Anthocyan! medium growth,
no special disease-problem at Germany, but many are possible.
"Allesöe" has even better harvest because of same ripening-time(per
umbel)! is one of the best for commercial plantations at Germany!
We use different cultivars for different chemical contents.
Probably you have also nice crosses between S. nigra and S. canadensis.

Hans
