I agree, pears are about the easiest "normal" fruit to grow, and they have the advantage that you pick them while still hard, let the customer ripen them. 
    For U-pick, blueberries are hard to beat.  Hector Black lets people pick on shares, meaning you get a gallon free if you pick one for him, then he takes his share to the farmer's market to sell.  Blueberries store, transport, and freeze better than about any other berry.  With the interest in phytochemicals, blackberries may increase in popularity, as they have far more than blueberries do.  But they still don't store or transport as well. 
    The best way to eat berries is to mash them up, crumble in some graham crackers, and then stir in yogurt, cream cheese or sour cream.  So simple and so good, anyone can eat berries every day.     Donna
