Hallo Lucky,
thank you for your notice of using also the "Green River" onto Carya cordiformis as an interstem!
This is the hardiest Hickory at Germany and its very easy to collect seed nuts...
At EU almost no Hickory is produced at nurseries.
Some forest departments are making very few tests with C. cordiformis.
C. ovata, C. ovalis and some others we have only at botanical gardens.

Are some nurseries in the North of the USA sometimes using other rootstock than Pecan for their Pecan graftings?

Ciao
Hans

Hans raised the issue of rootstocks other than pecan(C.illinoensis) requiring a compatible interstem. It's well-known - or, at least, anecdotally reported - that some pecan and hickory selections are not graft-compatible with either bitternut hickory(C.cordiformis) or bitter pecan(C.aquatica), and if a nursery were using either of these two species as rootstocks, then an interstem graft of, say, "Green River" pecan on bitternut would be required.
But, I find it unlikely that many commercial pecan nurseries in The South would be using anything other than pecan seedlings as their rootstock.
