Hi Deb,

Keep in mind that large commercial growers will have varieties that serve their business plan and financial needs. You may find a much better plum for small scale needs.

Say a plum tastes great, is disease resistant, but does not ship cross cuntry well. You will never taste that peach at a large commercial orchard.

Just something to think about. Your desires may not align with commercial growers. You may have to look hard for the plum that meets your needs.

Later,
Tom

Thanks to everyone who took the time to write about plums and plum varieties. I like the idea of checking out what other growers in the area have and will visit the local farmer's market to see and try the fruit. It was good to hear about the earliness of Japanese bloom...I had considered these cultivars, but we can get frosts as late as April and generally have consistently cold weather through March. Thanks again!
