One question, how many chill hours do they get there? That is how many hours does the temperature get below 45 degrees Fahrenheit (thats 7.2 degrees Celsius) in the winter. If it is a mountainous area close to Tibet it should get a large amount of chill hours. Also what is the wintertime low (on average) temperature? You may need a cold hardy type.
I presume you know that the apricot is native to China and there are many varieties in that country. The only impovement that you might get in getting European/American varieties is size. The E/A varieties are generally much larger than the Asian varieties.
