Pomegranates should be grown as a shrub in all but the very warmest zones (9 &10) where they can be grown as a single trunk tree. In the wild it is naturally a shrub. It should not be pruned the first couple of years; then pruned to 5-6 trunks and all suckers removed in all later years. In the production areas for commercial pomegranate fruit it is grow with 3 - 6 trunks depending on the grower.

I too received 2 each of Kazake and Salvatsky, all of which rooted.  Three survived and are flourishing in a pot.  They are approximately 1 foot high.
Thanks, Richard. 
Should they be trained as  trees or as shrubs?  They seem to want to be shrubs.
