I'll put in my two cents on Surround: I've used it for about three years, applying it with a Stihl backpack sprayer. My yields have been very low, despite the fact that I get very good coverage and apply it frequently. A couple of years ago I thought maybe I was applying it too frequently or that the force of the blower was knocking off the fruit.
This year, so far, I've started out with once a week spraying right after petal fall, mixing sulfur in to control scab. There's still many fruitlets on the trees, but many -- my offhand guess is 80 percent -- are showing curculio damage. Any insights? I'm hoping not to go back to spraying imidan.
By the way, I'm in Zone 5 in New York's Hudson Valley.

Also, as common sense, do not assume that the fineness of Surround is not present
in a bulk product of Kaolin. Englehard is not selling enough of this stuff to
create a whole new grade of milling. Kaolin is used in tons of cosmetics and
other really super fine usages. The correct mill grade for the home sprayer is
definitely out there. I am going to look on some bags of Surround tomorrow and
see if it reveals the mill grade. I see three possible sellers, one in Tennessee
and another from an own-line dealer. We'll see. Anyone else got some time to help
look into this?
