Hi,

You can save the girdled trees by doing some repair grafting. Do not let grafting scare you. It is easier than removing your lawnmower and sharpening it.

Depending on the damage you can either "inarch" or "bridge" graft over the girdling wound.

Bridge and Inarching grafts (scroll down to it);

You can save those girdled trees, and learn a little grafting, which you will want for the future anyway.

The spotted, reddish-brown bark on a young tree is your first clue it is a young fruit tree.

Later,
Tom
