Sources of these early-ripening persimmons include:

Grimo Nut Nursery, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont. http://www.grimonut.com/section5.htm (grafted Yates, Szukis, Campbell NC10, John Rick, Peiper, and Geneva Long)

Nolin River Nut Tree Nursery, Upton, Ky.    http://www.nolinnursery.com/index.htm  (grafted Blue, Craggs, Delight, Early Golden, Evelyn, Garrettson, Janet, John Rick, Killen, Miller, Morris Burton, Munich, NC-10, Szukis, Yates; also Golden Supreme, Miles, Ruby and Woolbright by request for 2006)

John Gordon Nursery, Amherst, N.Y.  http://www.geocities.com/nuttreegordon/0Kgordon.htm  (mixed seedlings of NC-10, Szukis, Geneva Long, Prok, SAA Pieper, and Yates as well as own-root Pieper)

England's Orchard & Nursery, McKee, Ky. http://www.nuttrees.net/fall2004Spring2005Catalogue.pdf  (grafted Yates/Juhl and Prok)

Red Fern Farm, Grandview, Iowa http://www.redfernfarm.com/tree03.htm (seedlings of Yates and SAA Pieper)

Apparently, Yates and Juhl are the same cultivar.

Is this due to lack of heating days? Am I growing the rootstock?

Persimmon like heat. I'd say zone 4 a has two strikes against it. 1. Too short a growing season and 2. summers too cool.

One of the very earliest persimmon is Juhl. Another very early one is from the Claypool breeding work, H-118. Meader is mid to late here in the Midwest and I doubt very much if your season is long enough there. No experience with NC-10 here.

I have no indication either are parthenocarpic so recommend you should also get a male.

Jerry
