Here's a variation I've used on grapes that might do the trick. Graft dormant male scions on a green shoot that originates as low on the female as possible. Once the male has a good shoot going, layer it a foot or two away from the female and train it up. Leave it attached to the female so that vine can push it more, but then if something happens to the graft union or the old trunk, the male will (hopefully) have rooted and can continue on it's own.
