You can get .02 X 3/8 X 8 inch grafting strips by the quarter pound. That is around 115 pieces  or about 5 cents a strip. They hold the graft union a lot better. And keep the graft safe and cooler. The strips also will expand with growth and buds will push through finally to crack apart and fall.

Yes, that is the advantage of cheap masking tape. It self destructs. At
least it does here in the strong Idaho sun.
