I grew both varieties in Southern Indiana during
the late 80s and 90s.
Kent (Flower of Kent is one syn.) is actually quite large and flavor
barely okay---not great.
Suntan. Great apple, but like its parent Court Pendu Plat it is
very shy in production. Also I recall that in some years heat would cause
a lot of internal breakdown prior to maturity. (FYI, many Cox sibs have
this problem in the typical hot humid midwest summer/fall.)
If the Cox flavor is what you are after, try
Suncrisp. Although it has problems (sensative to most all diseases), it is
incredibly productive and its flavor is a great complex (richly sweet)
package.
