Kevin, I have a tree and some experience - - I believe it is a Cox Orange
Pippin cross and I see a lot of what we call 'Cox disease', which is
another way of saying it doesn't tolerate heat, particularly as it
approaches maturity - - it ripens here (north-central IN, zn 5z) it ripens
late august/early sept - if the weather is like this year with moderate
temps and cool nights, it has exceptional flavor and crisp, course
texture - - if it is a hot year, it softens before flavor developes - -
just a wonderful apple if the conditions are favorable - - it has
demonstrated some biennial tendancy - - I do plan to put out a dozen trees
or so next spring, I think it is worthy...
