Whenever there is any religious ceremony like marriage, and similar big ceremony in the family that involves Hindu rituals, young banana plants are brought from the field and placed at all the four corners of the sacred area.

Intriguing! I was just at a Shinto ceremony blessing a  house-to-be-built (in an orchard no less) and my bamboo was used for this purpose.
