Whenever there is any religious ceremony like marriage, and similar big ceremony in the family that involves Hindu rituals, young banana plants are brought from the field and placed at all the four corners of the sacred area.  Leaves of Mango and (PIPAL) Ficus religiosa are also used.  Such ceremonies are very common everymonth in some home or the other.  So there is always a demand for young banana plants which are considered auspicious on such occasions.

30-40 years back this banana was used like a common banana in the hilly
regions. But now with the development of transport system, bananas from the
tropical areas reach every nook and corner of India and therefore this
fruits is not used much. Thre plants mostly used for religious purposes.
