Regarding Victoria Caron's post of Friday on late-germinating Macoun
seed, and Ethan Natelson's of Saturday on the possibility of time to
gerrmination indicating chilling requirement:
Some years ago a member in (northwestern?) New York state reported in
the Pomona that in his hilly area with rough variable spring weather,
Macoun apple was especially valuable because of its high chilling
requirement causing it to come out of dormancy late.
I notice that the catalogue of an eastern nursery reports Macoun as
blooming in midseason while a west coast nursery with mild winter
weather says that it blooms late.
