If you are referring to ultralights or powered parachutes they exist but are rarely used for anything beyond recreation around here.  The problem is not just finding someone who has one and is willing to volunteer it but the carrying capacity.  There is no weight left over for anything besides the pilot. An observer is often needed

to effectively search from the air.  They are limited in altitude around here due to commercial traffic and the need for ATC electronics if they go higher than 2000 feet or so.

 

There was a guy who flew a remote control helicopter with a camera for a while that worked well.  Anything that you can get that works for you is good, if it doesn’t then drop it and put your resources into another idea.

Hi, is anyone know of a use of paramotors in a search and rescue operation? I think it's a great way for the search part of S&R...
