Karen, based on your description it sounds like you were not
remotely a candidate for being transported in the saddle. To answer your questions, if you’re packing some equipment
to immobilize a leg, etc., inflatable air splints don’t take up much storage
room yet are pretty effective. And yes, a riding helmet should be provided to
the passenger / patient in the saddle. There are a multitude of ways to carry
along that riding helmet. On top of the pack behind the saddle is pretty common. -
