I always carry an helmet on the rear side of saddle, it's in our manual to have an helmet for a potential rider that need transportation, for a safety and liability reasons...

Karen, based on your description it sounds like you were not remotely a candidate for being transported in the saddle.

To answer your questions, if you’re packing some equipment to immobilize a leg, etc., inflatable air splints don’t take up much storage room yet are pretty effective. And yes, a riding helmet should be provided to the passenger / patient in the saddle. There are a multitude of ways to carry along that riding helmet. On top of the pack behind the saddle is pretty common.

I have only one question for those tranporting injured subjects by horse....where do you pack your spare helmet? I am assuming your patient would ultimateley be wearing one?  Also a leg immobilizer is a sizable peice of equipment that does not fold to easily.. most assuredly very difficult to pack unless you also have a pack animal as well as the horse you ride to take such things.  Well, thats just a couple of peices of equipment...what about the reat of the goods?
