I am one of the newbies, not yet out there. I am in eastern PA. I own 2 gaited horses, they stay next door at the neighbors in exchange for pet sitting when they travel. Boarding here can range from 300 to 800 a month depending on showbarn vs rundown. My husband is the hoof trimmer, ours are barefoot. Vet fees, so far it's less expensive than the dog.
For tack, grazing bits on both, the mare wears an Abetta round skirt and the gelding a treeless Bob Marshall. He's huge bolder shoulered and this was the only saddle out of 28 that fit him.
I wear a helmet, grew up on motorcycles and speed, I like my melon whole and not mushed.
I like the lists of equipment that others are carrying. So far the most riding I have done was a campout with 12 miles in one day and 20 the second. I was thrilled my two kept up so well. We were all blessed to have no malfunctions or injuries. I was unprepared if it did happen.
