Tomi` mentioned the ATV driver cannot search as well as
an MSAR rider because the driver must watch where the
ATV is going. This in my experience is very important,
and it applies to any vehicle search. If searching via
vehicle, I recommend there be a driver and one or more
other persons, passengers, whose job is to search. As
in civil air patrol: the pilot's entire job is to fly
the plane.
An experienced MSAR rider, on an experienced mount, can
focus on searching while the mount watches where they
are going.
Another thing to be clear about is this: combined units
and combined field teams are not the same thing. Is Al
Hale asking about SAR field teams that combine ATV and
MSAR resources, or a SAR unit that includes both ATV and
MSAR resources, or both?
