I agree totally. I've spent most my life riding in the country side
and I don't know how many times my horse or mule that I was riding
alerted me of people off in the distance that I would of never
noticed, including turkey huters-and you know how well they are
camoflage. They have even alerted me to items as small as gum
wrappers-cause they can smell it. I even had a mountain lion track me
every day for almost two weeks ( I never got to see him but I seen
his prints in the mud a couple times) but i'll tell you that mule I
was on sure knew he was there. And was sure to let me know.

As far a the K-9 end of it and documentation, I had lost a dog the
was very special to me last summer and one day walking into a pet
store I fell in love with this full-blooded bloodhound, who's name
now is RUBY. I thought it would be neat to train her for SAR and got
a few books on traing and the kind of "documentation" they keep on
them. Needless to say I'm a whole lot better with horses, so she's
just a pet now. she's probably about 9-10 months old.

But I did read every inch of those books (and they were ones
recomende from NASAR)
and the biggest deal they do on documentation is on every search,&
moch ride-for practice they each do their own documentation on how
their dog did. And keep it as records. (which does make for paperwork
everytime you ride-but you want a separate one on each horse) Then if
it ever came to question (or court-if it turned out to be a criminal
case), they had the records to prove it. And records at how well
their horse is at finding clues, people.
another thing that I found out that was interesting was when it comes
to "court" alot of states will only allow in court (believe) the
history records of bloodhounds. so if we want to push this it wont be
easy--but I'm definitly all for it.

I did find on the internet the site about "The air scenting horse".
It was interesting and it offered a manual on how to train your hores
to track people. (so I have ordered it ) it was only I think like
$15.00 , but anything that would help us teach and understand our
horse better definitly could help.

I had thought about keeping records on our horses like they do on
the dogs, if anything just to show creditably. maybe it's something
we all should do to help the MSAR become more know and understood.
