I use 50s for summer and winter squash. The mix is homemade and pretty rich
and heavier relative to most commercial starting mixes. 3 weeks is about all
it takes. Fast in the greenhouse and a few days to harden off. As soon as
you can pull the plugs they're ready and if they get to large they'll
prematurely flower and won't transplant well.

I've also put Cukes and melons out in 72s - same story very fast turn around.

I'm basically trying to get the things germinated and roots filled in the
cell with as little vegetative growth as possible.

As it is I find getting water on or having good soil moisture at
transplanting is critical as they will dry and damage really fast without it.
