In dealing with making and spreading compost I would put a pto driven
spreader similar to this
 
 
near the top of the must have list.
 
For years mine was the most used attachment on the place,
 
first off; the beater is a 5 minute job to remove and then you have a self unloading trailer
which at this place was used for firewood, brush from pasture clearing. and such.
 
With the beater in place we many timer put a single layer of small square hay bales
in and removed the strings, topped off with a load of manure, and made a new compost pile
while spreading in place. Same for collecting and adding crop residues.
 
In turning the pile; running it through the parked spreader makes a well chopped and airy mix.

Will a manure spreader work as a compost spreader? What is the better implement for spreading compost? Thanks in advance!
