Try nicotiana (lime is wonderful), tithonia torch, marigolds (tall African varieties), and amaranthus (all types!). I do transplant the nicotiana and tithonia though, through black biodegradable weedcloth. But, I'm in a cooler area.

For cooler areas, try agrostemma - purple queen, cerinthe, euphorbia marginata, larkspur, and calliopsis.

Annual scabiosa, carthamus, and broom corn work well too, probably in both areas.

Good luck.

Globe Amaranth in four+ colors, Salvia, Ageratum and we use four different basils in flower just for bouquets. Cinnamon basil bolted to flower is really nice.

Can anyone suggest some cut flowers that love heat and drought and do well direct seeded?  I had zinnias, sunflowers, cleome, celosia, and cosmos, but need something else. During the peak of the heat and drought this summer it was the flowers that saved us. I want to expand on that next year, but I feel like I need a little more variety.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
