We got our seed from www.eastbranchginger.com as well.

It was very slow to start.

We grew ours in bags as I know one of the consultants for the Hawaiin farm that produces this seed and they have moved all their production to bags due to soil diseases. (I do not know that those diseases would be presernt in my temperate soils, but I went with bags anyway) I thought working in bags w.b. smart. (plus east branch has some enticing photos of bags FULL of ginger at the end of the season.)

As a CSA farmer, I didn't have the time to focus on working the bags as attentively as I should have (requires regular level increases (hilling) and fetilization)

I'd say it is a forgiving crop.

Next year, I think I'll do it like Alison has done hers. It would be so much easier!

The bags are in the hoophouse. I've grown ginger outside here in WV for the past 10 years. (Didn't do it this year.)  I've only gotten a real crop in one of those years. Most years we get nice foliage (and some flowers! ;-) but very little baby ginger. In any case, the ginger is always such a joy to use!

So what IS the farmers market price for baby ginger and are you selling it as a whole plant?

And how much ginger, weight-wise, is a CSA share?

Thanks

Good morning!

If you all will forgive me, I’d like to revisit the baby ginger one more time.  We have added some more pictures to give you a better idea of how the crop grew through the season.  Just go to our website:   http://www.aunaturelfarm.com  and click on the baby ginger photo, or on the baby ginger text link on the left side.

Have a wonderful October day!
