We are planting at a little bit over 60 pounds per acre.  OSU Extension recommends 80.  The stuff germinates fast and flowers in less than 10 weeks nature permitting.  You can actually grow two crops back to back if you are on the ball and plant early.  

I would not use it as a cover crop as a companion with ANYTHING.  As Mac said it is an excellent smother crop, perfect to plow under if you want right before or after it blooms but before it seeds.  Self seeds very well but it does not handle cold well.
