I thought I’d pipe in on the pepper discussion since I’ve been pondering it for some time.

We’ve had extremely mixed results with pepper yields this year.

For green bells we’ve grown Orion because the seed is organic and pepper size is good. But production has been terrible two years in a row. Both years have been quite wet, but last year was very cool, this year very hot and humid. Not sure I’ll grow these ever again. I just don’t know what they need to produce well. I think I’ll be growing Ace as others have suggested.

Antohi Romanian frying peppers performed beautifully last year in the cool, wet temps, but are almost non-existent this year. We have them on both IRT and bare ground and both have been just a miserable waste of space.

However, other peppers did quite well: Corno di Toro, red and tangerine pimentos, Italian sunset have all been cranking out nice quantities. These are not great for commercial sales due to their small size, but good for specialty markets/farmers’ markets.

Carmen peppers are only average this year from the field. Hoophouse production is good as ever.
