Hi all, Going price for organic tomatoes at our
market right now is $5.00/quart. I’m selling them to independent health
food stores for $2.00 to $2.50 per pound, depending on type and volume. Based on
the rough numbers from past years, this provides an adequate return, and it’s
usually slightly higher than wholesale pricing from the large distributors,
especially at peak season (I usually negotiate a fixed price at the start of
the season and try to hold it there, rather than bouncing around with the
market). Canners, I sell to select customers for $1.25 per pound (after we’ve
put up our year’s supply), and they’re usually pretty ugly. Rob Wallbridge Songberry Organic Farm email: rob AT songberry.ca web: www.songberry.ca facebook: become a fan of "Songberry

[mailto:market-farming-bounces AT lists.ibiblio.org] On Behalf Of Pamela Crowe Andy-- If you check the current pricing for wholesale organic tomatoes at the
terminal markets right now, you will find you are probably underpricing. My strategy has always been to price these at what I believe to be a
reasonable price initially---minimally based on cost plus----more if the
competition's pricing shows something even higher. I can always come down in
price if I find it seems to not be working. You have all the power because you have the product. It isn't the
other way around. You may be working far too hard for the profit you are making. Pam SC
