Black Walnuts produce a phytotoxin,
juglone, which will inhibit the growth of many species of plants. Most
vegetables can be affected. The high-risk zone is anything within 1.5x the drip
line. Some think its more because it depends on sensitivity/tolerance and
movement of walnut debris. Bill William H. Shoemaker Sr. Research Specialist, Food Crops 630-584-7254, FAX-584-4610 From:

[mailto:market-farming-bounces AT lists.ibiblio.org] On Behalf Of E C GRANATA Folks: I remember that black walnut trees are not
friendly to gardens, but can't remember particulars. Can anyone
help? How far from the tree -- from the trunk? from the drip line? |
