My notion was to only label for the customers who needed to be able to tell them apart, etc., not before the seedlings were purchased.  Our trays were all labelled so we knew what we had, but the customer who bought several different ones was likely to have difficulty recalling which was which when they got home.

I was concerned that regular address labels would have too much adhesive and damage the stems of the seedlings, either by sticking to them or getting so securely attached to themselves that they'd be difficult for the customers to remove without damaging the seedlings.  The adhesive on the napkin rings seems like it would be more gentle and still do the job.

I'm a recycling fool, so any cardboard box- beer, wine or other- at my house, was fair game for me and my box cutter.  Though I do like the idea of picking up that case for after market refreshment!!  :)

just make sure whatever you use to write on is water proof, a coated
paper or something plastic is best.  I used plain paper labels last year
to do this same sort of thing and even though our transplants weren't
soaking wet at market, there was enough moisture to wick onto the paper
tags so they tore very easily.  Those transplants ended up in the
"Mystery" section if we didn't know for sure what they were.
