I'm at high altitude in Colorado, just put up our Farm Tek high tunnel last year, so it hasn't made it through the wild spring weather, so I'm still cautiously optimistic about it staying put. :) But,that being said, I have spinach as well. If only I'd have believed that it was possible! I didn't plant the whole tunnel, won't make that mistake again, this is the best, sweetest spinach I've ever had and my lucky friends and family who are enjoying it as my test eaters this winter are gladly begging to pay for small shares of it next winter. I need another tunnel, and a bigger one than 26x48 next time. Josh, I'm at a zone 5, maybe 4 with the altitude of 7100', so it's certainly possible for you. I wouldn't be able to take the cover off either, that would totally defeat my plan. Some days I just go sit in my tunnel in my lawn chair and bask in 90 degree warmth while it's windy and cool outside, if the sun shines, the tunnel really heats up. I've had a couple days where it was 50ish outside and 90 inside, in January. Gotta love it.

That is amazing, a 47 degree difference. Does that mean I could have 50 degree temps in winter in Z 6 in my hoop buildings?josh

We are in the running for the NRCS program here in Wyoming. Since we are "Beginning Farmers" we qualify for a rate of $3.30/sq ft. We will be allowed to keep the structure up year 'round if we can provide a guarantee from the manufacturer that it is safe from wind and snow. It would not behoove us to take it down as we wouldn't be able to put the plastic on until at least May which does not provide any season extension benefits.I'll be meeting with NRCS this week and I will ask about double plastic and inflation which is beneficial in our part of the country. We already have one 30x48 hoophouse set up this way which has not been impacted by the snow or wind. Still have spinach from last fall. Even when it's minus 30 outside, it's only dropped to 17 above under the spinach blankies.Maggie PalmerPainted Sage FarmQuanah Parker PlaceDaniel, Wyo307-859-8349"The purpose of agriculture is not the production of food, but the perfection of human beings."~ Masanobu Fukuoka
Lists are still be generated so obviously no one has been awarded any hoophouse grants yet. What are folks thoughts on the matter now that we know what's what.

They'll cover half the cost of about 2100 2/ft. No electrical, cannot have it up during snow and ice season, and no fans or mechanical vents. Just a simple structure that can be up for three seasons of the year.
