I've done this for the past 5 years with no issues. I've planted pea plants over a foot tall, never managed to get them in as soon as suggested..

trays. She transplant at the radicule stage, when the plant poke no
more than a quarter inch from the soil. Apparently, that gains her two
weeks in precocity, and she does not
