I'VE BEEN USING AN EARTHWAY SINGLE ROW SEEDER FOR YEARS AND IT WORKS FOR
MOST OF MY NEEDS (LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN BUY ONE FOR UNDER $50 ON EBAY). I WILL
BE TRYING A FRIEND'S MULTI-ROW PRECISION TYPE FOR LETTUCE THIS YEAR. I do a
lot of soilblock transplants and have been using a Hatfield Transplanter.
Since I am by myself most of the time I rigged up an over-the-shoulder flat
holder. Those 3point transplanters sure look nice.
I GROW A COUPLE OF ACRES WITH CLAY SOIL. I CAN just HANDLE TWO ACRES BY
MYSELF WITH AN OCCASIONAL DAY-LABORER. If I get any larger I will have to
invest in more $elaborate $equipment. I think about the bio-mulch like the
Wiedigers use to eliminate all that bloody weeding, but would have to change
how I incorporate my green-manures. In addition, I only have a small 20hp
tractor, so I'm not sure about its ability to handle a mulch layer.
Best wishes,
Farmer Breck

Folks,

I am looking a buying a seeder this year. I'd like to get a push style
Planet Jt, but $625.00 is a tad steep.

My soil is gravely. Its typical Vermont/Eastern Vermont stuff. Not like the
nice loam of the Illinois Praire where I grew up.

I'm looking at Johnny's Seeds version of the Plant Jr. and the Earthway
Seeder and the Korean Import mentioned in a prior post.

I've got a one and half acre plot and look to be expanding in outlying
years.

My questions are:

Which of the above three will have the longest life in rocky soils?

Of the three which in folk's opinion is the better bet overall long term?

Should one buy all the possible seed plates and attachements at intial
purchase?

Regards,

DRH
