At season's end, you should pull or cut the blossoms of your plants - I
often prune mine - to allow the fruit to mature. You want you plants
to put their energy into ripening the fruit, rather than setting new
blossoms. You should also stop fertilizing your plants once substantial fruit-set has occurred - Robert Farr The Chile Man http://www.thechileman.com rbfarr AT erols.com * (540) 668-7160 (w) * (703) 431-6734 "Work is love made visible." - Kahlil Gibran Bill Shoemaker wrote: I've observed the same thing on all kinds of peppers. I've not seen research that affirms it, but I believe that peppers just cannot support additional development of biomass once a certain weight of fruit is on the plant. They just abort blossoms. But if you pick some or all of the fruit off, the plant will start setting fruit again. It's good to keep the plants well picked. You'll have much better season totals. BillIf fruit is left on the plant and becomes fully red ripe is that a signal to the plant to shut down, mine quit blooming after the reds showed up.? I had expected them to keep going like tomatoes.William H Shoemaker, UI-NRES Sr Research Specialist, Food Crops St Charles Horticulture Research Center 535 Randall Road St Charles, IL 60174 630-584-7254; FAX-584-4610 _______________________________________________ Market-farming mailing list Market-farming AT lists.ibiblio.org http://lists.ibiblio.org/mailman/listinfo/market-farming |
