We have a great hunting cat…but I can’t seem to get her to understand that the raised beds in the greenhouse are not there for her to use for the bathroom.  She just does not get it!  Love the idea though…but can’t figure out how to make her stop doing it so I don’t let her in there anymore.  In fact, this January when the greenhouse was frozen…she followed us out there, it was dark and freezing cold and just wanted to be with us I guess.  Well, I have not lights in this one so I had a flash light with me trying to fix something.  She was walking along the greenhouse on top of the tables I have stored out there and the next thing I know, the bad kitty is on top of the greenhouse.  Then she could not get down because it was slippery so she used her nails to slow her descent down.  I would not pet her for days.  I don’t think too much was damaged but won’t know until spring when I can get a better look.  Still have  no idea how she even got up there without tearing holes in it.  She can stay away from it for now IMO!!!

I've had a few growers tell me they use cats to keep rodent populations down in tunnels.

I had asked this awhile back and the best suggestion given and agreed on was trapping the critters.  Eliot Coleman does this also I think I read in his book years ago.

Does anybody have suggestions for getting rid of an infestation of voles in a hoophouse?

I think I remember somebody on this list talk about making a trap with a mix of oatmeal and molasses in a bucket, with a ramp from the ground to the lip of the bucket. I think the idea was that the critters would go up the ramp, jump into the bucket to get to the goo and then find themselves trapped, with no alternative but to eat their way into vole heaven as they sank in the muck.

Does anybody remember this, or have any other suggestions?
