Beth,
I do not use roll up sides. There is no side batten on mine except for the toe boards at ground level. The wind never stops blowing here so ventilation is not a problem. The wind was driving the gravel and sleet straight sidways and really did a number on the side but the roof is in fine shape.

If the side walls are really pocked (but the roof isn’t??), I would consider attaching new plastic with a second set of wood battens, like the current sidewall is attached, except there would be an edge above instead of coming down from the roof – do get my thought? Might even cut off the current side wall, though we have double sidewalls and they roll up fine. They do collect moisture in between though.

Have any of you ever
taken a section of new poly and patched right over a bad section using poly
repair tape to hold it on.

Hi Shelly,

I had to do this the very first day the greenhouse was completed and (for some crazy reason) our puppy attacked the poly on one side chewing a huge hole in it.  Sigh.

The patch held for several years.  Here's what I did.  Clean and dry the poly so that the repair tape has a surface free of dust (or puppy slobber).  I cut 2 patch pieces of left over poly to cover the hole and extend beyond the raw edge 3 inches.  Tape one piece of poly to the outside of the greenhouse and tape the other piece to the inside of the greenhouse.  This may be excessive but I was more comfortable knowing that if the outside piece somehow came off there was still the inside piece to back it up.  Taping the patch piece just to the inside won't work because rainwater collects between the patch and poly and causes the tape to fail.

Good luck with your repair.
