I'm in south Alabama, and I "stockpile" common bermuda because I can't get it cut and baled.  But, my main forage for my cattle and goats is winter wheat interseeded with mustard, kale, rape and collards that I plant in October and graze it all winter.  I don't feed any hay.  I don't know how far north the wheat will keep up with grazing, but it sure works well down here.......
