This business of planting on the shortest day and harvesting on the longest
day
is nonsense. Jim Crockett of the Victory Garden used to say that on his TV
show
back in the seventies, perhaps that's where the saying started. Points north
of
zone seven plant garlic early to late September, this gives the plant a good
root system to get it through the winter Some say the plant needs a 60 day
cooling period before long days begin, where the soil temps vary from 32-50
degrees to make the best sized cloves. Around here that is between October and
December...Bob.
