Coleman goes into the 'skipping' wheels problem in his 'backside' 'book.' Besides carefully preparing the planting surface, he uses a roller to 'firm' the planting surface so the wheels have something to grip.
Powdery soil is not entirely a benefit because it will not provide traction for the wheels.
The only rollers I've seen of the type Coleman 'recommends' have been
homemade.
