Is $1.25 a good price in your area for goat? Your post left me a bit
confused. Were you suggesting the goat farmers wasn't getting enough or he
was getting a good price?

My sister in VT gets $5/# (dressed carcass with head) for her sheep and
goats through a group that buys them in VT and sends them to NYC.

Even here (MT), folks get a better price.

If anyone wants to see some GREAT work on sustainable agriculture and HUGE
support for farmers, check out UVM and other searches using farming,
agriculture, and Vermont in the search engine. Vermont has a support
organization for women farmers, funding and support for new farmers, and
much more. It is very easy to get into farming in Vermont right now!

An old friend of mine was able to leave her professor/head of department
job at UVM to farm full-time and work as a consultant. She gives lectures
on sustainable ag all over the United States.

Liz, this may be a good avenue for you. Many businesses and local
organizations are getting funding to bring "experts" in for one-time
lectures on various subjects. I suggest you look into the speaker fees
first. The paychecks are great! Then find the organizations that fund
smaller organizations. You might become their in-house recommendation for
local lectures. If this doesn't work, you can contact the groups yourself.
