There is a difference between globalization and corporate globalization. We
are currently in a world where the latter is what predominates.

And that is a good thing in my opinion. If the UN was in charge of Globalization we'd continue to have genocidal behavior around like in Rwanda and Bosnia. Since social strife and violence is bad for business, business of any size wants a stable society and against physically and psychologically violent social wacko's.

It creates low paying, low quality jobs.

Nope. It actually spreads the wealth AND THE POVERTY around. The low paying jobs are more socially just than the protectionist pyramd scheme that armies and political borders and local political cliques impose to condense the wealth inside of individual artificial boundaries such as over paid workers. Capitalism is more socialist than socialism in that the consumer has the power and the consumer is the little person and EVERYONE is a consumer. The business owner MUST be humble and play the game or go out of business.

protections that were democratically agreed upon.

There is no such thing as democracy. Even ancient greek society depended on a slave class to survive so it wasn't a democracy either. These "protections" are partisan as can be and passed by reason of activist overactivity and perversions of the courts to overpower the actual democratic will of The Normal People.

Raising the primitive level of "The Local Normal People" to where they believe in self protection is better than protecting them like cows. Capitalistic self respect is so dangerous to exploitative local power cliques they will murder and terrorize to maintain the status quo. Just ask Bin Laden Inc.

Check out Chapter 11 of
NAFTA - and if you are interested, I will cite you some specific examples of
how this has happened.
It breaks down local and community economic systems.

Most local and community economic systems are monopolistic and exclusionary in nature. Join the clique or work at a minimum wage job.

It challenges local control and democracy.

Good. Tyrants need their butt kicked. Again, there's no such thing as democracy - just the local "in crowd" or clique deluded into thinking they are inclusionary. It is a popularity and power contest. The little folk are cattle. Cattle make unprofitable employees with poor attendance records and low self-esteem.

It consolidates money to the already wealthy.

Someone elses paycheck and bank account is absolutely none of my business unless it's criminal.

There are benefits, yes - but the way that globalization is happening could
be much improved upon.

Anything can be improved on.

What you cite below, mn, is the myths that those who
promote it pass on.

Actually what you cite are the myths that your group wants to promote. We all promote our myths. Only G_d has the mythless truth. We just pridefully delude ourselves into thinking we do unless we are fundamentalists who belive we own a piece of the truth.

And, they try to cast those of us
who are against
corporate globalization
as people who are against progress, people who are
against the inevitable, people who are against trade.
None of these boxes
are accurate.
Of course not. When you dig your heels in then only YOUR boxes are accurate. Your opponent never has accurate boxes - they only promote myths to defeat the righteous who posses the fundamental truth. This is not a good mindset as it breeds isolation and marginalization.

>Instead, we are people
who want those who are affected by the
trade agreements to have input into them,

"Input" is not that I get my way - it's that I have my vote and I do vote. I sometimes even win.

and who want trade agreements to
be made with some basic rights and standards as a part of them, rather than
made to tear down basic rights and standards.

Sorry, life is a dynamic thing. I don't blame you for wanting a settled situation but things and times change. Osama Inc. was such an anti-change corporate body look at how violently they reacted.

Look for the opportunity, the niche, the alliance, the vision on the horizon. Keep evolving and adapting and going for the good stuff and gusto.

mn

I think globalization is a great thing.
