Thank you Liz. Here's my 2 cents. Non-political means not campaigning for or
against candidates or political parties. But to bar discussion of "political"
issues would seriously detract from this list. Everything farmers do is
"political" in one sense or another, whether it concerns farmers market
regulations, food labeling and processing, organic certification, dairy
prices, hog checkoffs, fertilizer prices, GMO seeds and lawsuit protections,
international grain cartels, "mad cow" inspections, NAFTA and import
competition, you name it. The fact is, government is deeply involved in all
agriculture one way or another, and many, many farmers are in effect working
for the government whether they know it or not. I don't like it, but it's
true.
