You can eat field corn, too. My parents did during the depression. They
talked about gathering some once in a while, but I never experienced it.
There is only a 2 or 3 day window when you can eat it. Field corn goes
from milk stage to dough stage very quickly.

This would have been open-pollinated Reid's Yellow Dent corn from saved
seed.
